Since 1994,
Families of Paraguay has welcomed all families who have an adopted child
from Paraguay. This reunion grew out of a Monday morning playgroup and has
now served families from all over North America. It is a "don't
miss" event for many because...family, fun, and friendship is what
the reunion is all about.

Latin American
Heritage Camp 2001 [Top]
Come
join us for a unique family experience at the 4th annual Latin
American Heritage Camp (LAHC), which will be held June 29-July 1 in
Denver. LAHC, sponsored by the non-profit organization Colorado
Heritage Camps, is organized for families with children adopted from
Latin American countries or adopted in the United States of Latin
American descent. This
year's theme is "Festivals of Latin America." Latin American
Heritage Camp 2001 will take children and their families on a quest
through the countries and cultures of Latin America. Through music,
language, folktales, food and crafts, children will experience the
rich traditions, festivals and customs of their country and region of
origin. Children will build a sense of pride in who they are and where
they come from.
As
importantly, LAHC provides children an opportunity to be and talk with
others like themselves who have families by adoption. In "HeART
Talks" sessions children participate in art-making experiences
that help them communicate about their adoptive experience. While
the kids are in their sessions, the parents have their own workshops
and classes to help them learn more about Latin American culture and
how to integrate it into their own family traditions and celebrations.
Through discussion groups and sessions, LAHC also gives them support
and resources for dealing with parenting, adoption and interracial
issues.
LAHC is
one of eight camps sponsored annually by Colorado Heritage Camps. The
organization also offers African-American, Chinese, East Indian,
Filipino, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese camps. At all, children have
made friends with kids "just like me," and parents and kids
have had the opportunity to grow as a family.
